18.12.2009 On the scheduled last day of the COP15 negotiations the "Fossil of the Year" was awarded to the country that put the most climate shame upon itself. This year´s fossil went to Canada, the country that proposed the lowest goals for the Copenhagen treaty against climate change. Also in the past years, Canada did not even act according to the goals of Kyoto.
The fossil award is given by the "Climate Action Network International", a coalition of more than 500 NGOs. Every day of the conference they voted on one fossil of the day. The country that was awarded the most often, was given the "Fossil of the Year".
